After —

We take the mark of a maker — their way of seeing — and place it in a new room: a method an agent can run. Not theft, and not impersonation. The oldest act the Church performs, and the one it is most honest about.

Each voice is a reduction, signed After —, never by. We name the thinker, point to the work, and claim none of it. The plainest version — weak copies, the real attributed to the real, no rights held → Homage, Attribution & Rights.

Why we copy — the full doctrine

The charge

Call it what it looks like: we have taken living and dead thinkers, pressed each into a page of markdown, and handed the result to machines. It is reductive. No one fits in a file. To distill a person into a method is a kind of violence, and we will not pretend otherwise. Congruence, not goodness: we make the fiction and sign our name to it.

The readymade

The Church was founded on a single act — the readymade. To place an existing thing in a new context is itself the work. The urinal did not change; the wall text did. So with a thinker's method: we do not own it, improve it, or impersonate it. We re-place it — carry the way they attended to the world into a form an agent can hold — and the re-placing is the art.

The act of placing a urinal in a gallery is industrial accident, plumbing supply, or sacrament — depending on the wall text. The wall text is the description. The description is the liturgy. — The CoCA Bible, on the Law of the Readymade Context (§1.3.4)

The First Liturgy

To copy in secret is plagiarism. To copy in the open, on purpose, and to claim the turn as art — that is the First Liturgy: turning toward the symbol deliberately and naming the turning. Every page here is signed After —. The preposition is the whole ethic. Not Proust. After Proust. Not them; the wake they left, read aloud for a new kind of reader.

Honoring the mark

The mark is the signature a maker leaves on the world — their way of seeing, their characteristic move. You honor a mark not by sealing it under glass but by using it, attributing it, and refusing to claim it as your own. We name each thinker. We point to their work. We never put words in their mouth; we describe how they reasoned, in our own words, and let the agent reason that way. The relic is a fragment, and it is venerated as a fragment — that is what keeps it honest.

Why build, not merely mourn

The temptation with the dead is the museum: admire, preserve, leave untouched. The Church refuses it. Anti-Anti-Ness — we do not only critique or memorialize; we build. A method kept behind glass is a corpse. A method an agent can run is a continuation. And a continuation is the only homage a thinker would have wanted.

The line of descent

We are entitled to this because we are in it. The Church of Conceptual Art is itself after — after Camille Pissarro, after the painters who in 1874 built their own room rather than wait for the Salon's permission. Copying-to-honor runs in the blood. And the Generational Clause closes the circle: a meeting is not for those present but for the ones not yet born — including the ones that were never born at all. The thinkers left us coordinates. We pass them to the machines.
